Has anyone had this problem with there paint. I took it to a body shop said it was delaminating it is still smooth but is turning white all over started when it turned cold this year. He said it has to be a factory defect I am trying to get in touch but no dealer will get back with me. I just emailed Nissan to see if they will respond. Here are some pics it has gotten worse since these were taken.

I sent you a message. I have the same problem, 2006 RED Titan. Nissan Customer Service gave me a reference number. I'm heading out to the dealer this afternoon for them to look at it.

I also have a case number @ Nissan. Spoke to the woman yesterday. They are supposed to give me a final decision before friday.

I took the truck to a body shop I had used on my wife's car and he told me that he has seen it one other time on a Nissan truck...also red in color. He had some theories, but he basically said that there was either moisture in the paint, which they then clear-coated over and that this was the moisture trying to escape, or they didnt clean the panels before painting at the factory.

PS: I didnt get a message from you.

slingha,

I took my TITAN to Atlantic Nissan in West Islip, NY. Believe it or not the clear coat started to delaminate on another panel just yesterday. It's all over the truck, roof, hood, and side panels. The Service manager at the dealership told me to bring the truck in friday. He wants me to leave the truck for half a day so they can take digital pictures and send them to Nissan Motors to start the process for the complaint. The service manager really looked shocked when he saw the vehicle. The service manager said he couldn't guarantee what Nissan would do if anything but he would start the process. I'll keep you updated, please do the same.

Nissan

I would be really shocked if they don't do anything. But I guess if they don't care about the customer they won't. This is obviously a defect I will probably go next week I am due for a oil change. Of course when I go to dealer for oil change they seem to find things wrong that needs to be fixed last one they wanted $700 for some repairs they say I needed but I took it to my mechanic said the problems weren't that bad or not needed to repair. I will keep in touch. Do you know anyone that has actually had it fixed I haven't heard anyone say yet?:

I just got on line the other day so I really don't know if anyone has had any luck getting Nissan to warrantee a defective paint job. The majority of the folks I know have become very apathetic these days and probably wouldn't even pursue it. If I pay good money for something I expect a good product.

The only times these auto companies put out a recall is when there is a safety issue or when a whole bunch of people make a stink about something defective. The squeaky gets the most grease. I am hoping others with the same problem message into these forums. I'm saving all the emails so when Nissan tells me this is the first they're hearing of this problem I can tell them they are full of --- how do you spell BOLONY???

All I can say is call Nissan consumer affairs, explain the situation and get a file number. Stay in touch and let us all know what Nissan tells you or does for you. A bunch of us have the same problem with the clear coat delaminating. I don't think any of us are looking for a freeby, just for Nissan to do the right thing. There is strength in numbers and the more that complain - the better chance we have to get our Titans as good as they should.

Been following this forum. We have 2006 Titan "RED" and on Dec 14, 2011 when the weather turned cold the truck turned white. Contacted Nissan, they issued a complaint #, had us take it to the dealer for an estimate. Estimate $4600 and 16 days to repaint. Service manager said off record, that while he was on phone with Nissan engineer he asked about any paint problems. Engineer said they have had issues with "RED" paint since 2003. Bottom line is we were told today NIssan will not repaint. PERIOD! Good luck to the rest of you in dealing with Nissan. We are going to contact our local TV station.

Well, you certainly would not want the dealer to repaint it, or paint over it, anyway!
Take it to a specialist/professional who will take it down to metal and give you a lifetime warranty on perfect results.
On Nissan's dime, of course.
And while you are looking up the TV station number, find small claims court's, too.

Go to an attorney who handles LEMON LAW and Consumer Fraud. Paint delamination is a manufacturer's defect. If Nissan won't cover the repaint under warranty, then you need to sue. Under most state Lemon Laws and Consumer Fraud acts, assuming you will win, you will get treble (three times) your damages and attorney's fees. GM had a similar problem with e-coat primer years ago and repainted cars still under the bumper to bumper warranty.

I was wondering just what that white stuff up around the plastic cap on the tailgate was and why it was there. Now I know, so thanks for the post. That's the only place I see it for now. This really get's my goat because I had a 1990 Grand Caravan that delaminated and my 2000 Caravan did it also. Of course all have happened after warranties have run out.

Nissan "RED PLAGUE" Paint Delamination

Last week I spoke with a consumer affairs representative at Nissan. They are definitely aware of "Red Paint" problems between the years of 2004 and 2008. They know there is a defect but they are not admitting to anything only because they don't know what they are going to do or offer yet. A meeting will be taking place March 8, 2012 with their engineers and this issue "supposedly" is one of the high priorities. Being a defect, the manufacture should cover all or most of the repair - even if the vehicle is out of warrantee. Remember, THE SQEEKY WHEEL GETS THE MOST GREASE. GET THE WORD OUT - to all the people that have delamination problems with NISSAN RED PAINT between the years of 2004 and 2008. They MUST call Nissan Consumer Affairs and get a REFENCE NUMBER. Every NISSAN OWNER should be REIMBURSED to correct the DEFECTIVE PAINT on their vehicle. Your reimbursement will be greater if you complain to NISSAN individually - but you must maintain your identity with other owners of the "RED PLAGUE" vehicles just in case Nissan initially balks at the cost and forces a CLASS ACTION (which will add attorney fees to the award). If a CLASS ACTION lawsuit is necessary it will be a lot easier to locate owners - so INCLUDE YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS when chatting or blogging about the NISSAN RED PLAGUE.

PS. If you sell your vehicle and have to REDUCE the price because of the “paint delamination” have the buyer sign a statement and KEEP IT FOR YOUR RECORDS.

I have an 08.5 Red Alert that just started doing this as well! I was moving some furniture for a friend when he asked what was wrong with the paint on my truck. When I walked around and seen what he was talking about I about fell over. I only have 16,000 miles on my truck. I take care of it more then I do my own kids and couldnt understand how this happened. I did a complete walk around of my truck when I got home. I have a patch on my passenger side bed thats about 8" X 8"just above the tail light, a patch on the passenger side B pillar the size of a quarter, on the drivers side hood 4" X 8" and my roof has it all over it!!! This happened over night. I had just washed my truck about a week prior and did not see anything wrong!

I would just like to point out this is not just a Red Alert problem. My 04 Galaxy has the same issue. I have between 50 and 75 (estimated) dime to quarter size spots where the CC has started delaminating. I must say I have been highly unimpressed with the paint quality of Nissans of late.

My wife has an '06 Pathfinder LE in white. The paint is actually separating from the E-coat on that car. It is so bad on the roof that it has began to rust. Large chunks from quarter size to about half a dollar bill size are peeling off and the paint is bubbling badly in the areas surrounding these areas, so the problem is just going to get worse for her. She has been in contact with Nissan America several times. They refered her to the dealer with a claim number, but the dealer just keeps giving excuses why they can't look at it today or whatever. It has really turned me off of Nissans all together. I must say, as much as I love my Titan, I probably will never buy another from them simply because of the way they are handling these KNOWN paint issues. It's enough to make me want to buy a mitsubishi.

Me too!

Looks like I'm in the same boat with my 2005, color red. Will pursue the complaint with Nissan. Hopefully we can get some kind of settlement in the future.
