Bad paint on 05

I have a 2005 Titan and the paint is extremely bad. It's noticeable from a block away. The roof and the hood are very bad, the fenders and doors are starting to fade also. My truck has less than 100,000 miles. It's so bad I don't even see a point in washing it very often. If anyone hears of some sort of lawsuit please inform me for I cannot afford a proper paint job myself. Anyways, a factory paint job should last at least 15 - 20 years shouldn't it? I've been attacked by the RED PLAGUE

Well it started about three months ago. My red 2008 Titan has started to peel in two spots just in the front of the roof. Funny thing is, I have noticed the same two spots on other titans that are not red, but gray in color also. I just called Nissan Consumer Affairs and have filed a formal complaint. Not sure how far it is going to take me, but at lest I have a case number now.

Bump...

It appears my 2008 Red Alert Titan has suffered a spontaneous clear coat failure. Popped up Wednesday after 3+ days of continuous rain thanks to Hurricane Sandy. A buddy who runs an auto body shop said he sees this on Nissans more than anything; especially red. Said it's usually from moisture getting in between the paint layers through a chip. It's on every single panel... like a cancer. Truck will have to be sanded and re-sprayed. I've been very pleased with my Nissans (wife has a 2007 X-terra) until now. How they handle this will determine if I ever buy another. Visited my local dealer this morning to start the claim process. The service manager and body shop manager had never seen anything like this. It's moisture getting under the clear somehow. It's not exterior oxidation.

same here

My 2004 radiant silver started with two spots on the roof and now is on the top of the drivers side fender. My friend has the roof spots on his canteen green. I'm looking at putting a carbon fiber wrap on the roof from metrorestyling.com.

Class action lawsuit against Nissan for defective paint

If I didn't know better I would swear you took pictures of MY Red 2008 Titan! I have the exact same problems which truly just appeared after 2-3 days of continuous rain and now day by day this "Plague" seems to be getting worse as it is spreading all over my truck (one in which I constantly baby and do not drive but for pleasure and rarely thus it has very low mileage)
**I am yes a 08 Nissan Titan owner seeking other Nissan Owners (as I have found VERY quickly this paint issue is in many nissan models) in WNC area whom have their paint delaminating causing a “white plaque” spreading all over.**
After taking the truck to 4 different body shops I trust, they ALL said this was clearly a manufacture defect thus I contacted my local Nissan dealerships (Yes 2 of them which in return told me to contact Nissan Consumer affairs. Well...I have bent over backwards doing everything Nissan Corp has asked I do including having it looked at by their preferred body shop who even said it is a manufacture defect, now they are trying to say that since my Titan is out of the original warranty period that QUOTE:"They do not HAVE to do anything" even after my local Nissan dealership GM, Service Manager, Nissan "Specialists" you name it-they have seen my truck AND have pictures they took themselves of it. Nissan is trying to say they have never seen this happen before.... REALLY!? I told them to do 5 minutes of research online in which they stated they don't rely on ANYTHING posted online. This is one of many guys/gals out there Ready for a Class action lawsuit as I know many Nissan owners out there that are having the same problem including 1 lady whom was at the same dealership the same day I was with the same exact complaint (The GM told me this himself!). Please post your experience and if you live near my area as Nissan needs to make things right for their customers!

I just noticed my 2005 Nissan Titan had these spots starting to form 3 days ago. Just like everyone else, right after it turned cold. With the Red Alert color. I just emailed Nissan to see what them might have to say about this.

My 2005 Alert Red just started doing the same thing on every body panel except the driver side door which was repainted when the truck was a week old from a dent. I called Nissan today and they stated they have not heard of any issues and the truck was out of warranty. No chit!! I had three body shops all state the clear was delaminating and probably from a defect or contamination at the factory. This all happened in a day or two. [email protected]

delaminating paint

I have it on my 04 radiant silver and I've seen it on the canteen green also. They should have a recall.

My red '06 Titan just started de-lamination on the hood and roof in about six huge patches. Anyone get answers or results yet? I'm going to call Nissan too.

I have an '06 also and it started delaminating a few months ago. This is a very common problem with Nissans of this age. As far as I know if the vehicle is out of warranty Nissan is not legally required to do anything. Nissan will continue to deny there is a problem but just ask any busy body shop and they are all very familiar with this problem. Still love my truck but Nissans response to this has been very disappointing.

Red Alert paint delam

I have a 2010 Crew Titan garage kept with 39000 miles, that started this year. I am in Nashville, TN. and we had an extremely cold winter this time. From what I have observed is the white patches went away once the warm weather came back. It appeared to be water trapped between the base red color and the clear coat. Water froze , frost turns white. Frost melts water becomes clear but still trapped behind the clear coat. It will eventually dry out, but leave small popped bubbles in the clear coat. Three body shops have written estimates, all around $5500.00. Nissan deal priced it at $4500.00. After a quick shuffle with Nissan's local rep, she came back with what they call a "GOOD FAITH " offer of paying 25% of the cost of repairs. Titan owners definitely need to ban together and file a class action on Nissan.

File at complaint with the NHSTA, the more that is filed, will force Nissan to take action. mine has been doing this for a while, I filed a complaint with BBB and Nissan denied it, but the NHSTA will look at the issue at a deeper investigative view.

I have a 2012 Red Alert crew cab doing the same thing. I’ll take pics during the day and post. Just started happening last year. Comes for winter, leaves when warm enough. The delamitation explanation I’m not sure about, at least for the Red Alert. My paint guy has been a paint guy for 40 yrs. I’m not saying he’s right or wrong but when he looked up the paint code and formulation it said it was a one-stage paint. That means the clear coat is mixed with the color. It’s not a base color coat with clear coat on top. This would make me believe that the paint would be more porous than a two-stage. Supposedly it’s the only way to get those EXACT color properties.
