Towing a fifth wheel

Was just over at the camping world forum, (why do I do that?) and someone had a legitimate question about pulling a fifth-wheel travel trailer with his Titan. Instead of some simple answers (like happens here) it turned into a flame-war over what is made in the USA and what is not.

To help a fellow Titan owner out, is there a fifth-wheel hitch designed for the Titan? I'm not sure if he has a Crew or Extended Cab.

I invited him to visit the site, maybe we'll get a new member!

My Step-dad just had a fifth wheel hitch installed in his 06 extended cab. Not sure exactly what size the new camper is but it pulls it just fine. He has an XE 2WD without the tow package (standard gears). I have an 06 crew cab. The bad is probally to short for a fifth wheel. I'll take some pic's of his setup next time I see him.

5th wheel pull is possible for Titan's and there are hitches that fit it. I believe the Crew Cab is too short for it but the King Cab will do it. Do a search on here. There are some folks that do this.

Keep in mind that according to the Nissan Towing guide, all pulling weights and payloads, tongue, etc. are identical to pulling via a rear hitch. Basically, they give you no more ability than a rear bumper/under truck hitch style pull.

You can do a fifth wheel with the CC too, and there is a sliding hitch that allows it to work.

CrewCab shortbed not ideal for 5th wheel

yeah im dreaming of a nice 5th wheel also but I have the CC short bed, so I'm going with a travel trailer instead. The CC short bed with a regular 5th wheel hitch wont alow enough space for the trailer to not smack the back of the cab in even the smallest of turns unless you buy the very expensive electric sliding hitches that moves the ball up and down when you turn. But if you have the KingCab with the longer bed, it might work fine with a normal hitch. happy camping and post pics of what you ended up with so we can all see.

(woops ..didnt click post button soon enough ...sorry about the redundant info. that was already mentioned by last posts)

CC and Travel Trailer

I looked into a fifth wheel (which is what I really wanted) but with my CC, and the spare gas tank mounted in the front of the bed I had to say goodbye to the FW. I now pull a 27' travel trailer and the Titan pulls it just fine.
There is a FW hitch called the superglide that automatically slides back ( not with electricity) when you turn or backup, after speaking with this company I was advised not to go with a FW that was 8' wide which really llimits choices.
That was just another reason I went with the travel trailer.
Hope this helps.

Just curious, was this at www.rv.net/forums? I'm a member over there as well, and you're right, according to them, if you have anything non-US, non-diesel, non-dually, then you can't tow more than a pop-up!!! I have gotten some good info from over there, though.
