LOL Actually, I was just REALLY suprised the wife said I could get them!

Had to tell you!  :p
Cool, man! Anyone know if the aftermarket bars stick out as much as the oem rails? I'm looking for something that serves a dual purpose.....providing a "step up" for wife and kids, as well as some door ding protection.

BTW....did ya get a good price?.....mind sharing how much you paid and from where?

Thanks

I'm looking for the exact same thing. (for the exact same reasons)

That guy over at TT was trying to sell those for a while. He lowered the price from $200 and was offering to install them for free. Good deal.

Nice! I'm thinking about going with the black as well, since I have an XE. I may get some cheaper bars on ebay and have them coated at Rhino Linings, depending on what they'll charge.

I just ordered some black side moldings on ebay and may have them coated as well.

Thanks,
Steve

Yeah, that material is almost indestructible. I figure anything you coat with it will last forever. This way you have no worries about rust, they'd be more slip resistant and I think it'd look kinda cool with a little texture. I saw a work truck the other day that had the overhead ladder rack coated with either rhino or linex. I thought...."That's a GREAT idea!"

Thats a good idea, but I would make sure the material can be used on pourace(spelling?) material like wood before doing it.
BiXLL, that wood is no-longer porus. I covered it with fiberglass resin.

?? dunno, it might work ?? I'll give it a try in the spring.
Being it is sealed with the resin, I see no reason it would not work. It could infact also enhance the looks!
I was thinking about buying the spray-on liner kit and attempt it myself. There's a company on ebay that sells the material incl the spray applicator for like $75. Another company, rattleguard.com, sells the material for around $85, plus the spray gun for another $20. The rattleguard claims that their product does not "chalk out" like the Rhino does, probably due to the UV protectant component.

Am I nuts for even thinkin bout doing this myself? Sounds messy as hell, but not too difficult from what I've seen. Anyone else tried applying this stuff themselves?

Steve
Hey it can't be any worse than spraying acoustic popcorn texture on the ceiling in a house. LOL

Shouldn't be too awful hard. I'd sure give it a shot and probably will in the spring.

Ha! Spraying ceiling texture....yeah, that's gotta be a good time........not!

I think it'd give your custom made bed cover a cool textured look, and it'd probably outlast the truck. Depending on your pressure reg setting, you can get anything from a smooth to a rough texture, depending on what you're looking for. What color would you go with.....black, or try to color-match?

I figured a gray sort of color that I have on it now. Don't really want to go with black, too boring I guess.

We'll see next spring.
Got them Installed!!!

:D Well, got the bars installed Saturday. They were extremely easy to install. Used the factory studs and inserts (provided for factory steps). Treads are grooved for traction and they seem to be VERY sturdy. Of course, I don't weigh 240 lbs. either! j/k

They line up nearly perfectly with the edge of the door seal. They are approx 4" wide.

Here are some shots of the install:
