That's who I thought you'd reported to. Reporting to the NHTSA will not get your truck fixed you need to contact Nissan's consumer affairs department, they'll take your information and complaint then contact you with a decision on whether they can help you or not. In my case they picked up the tab even though it was out of warranty. I don't know for sure why or what brought them to the decision, I didn't yell at them even though I was prepared to. Maybe they considered me a loyal customer, I've never owned a Nissan before but I've only ever had this truck serviced by Nissan.

Trucks in the shop right now, it's leaking from both axle seals, the pinion seal, and the E brake pads are soaked in diff fluid so they need to be replaced. this sucks cause i'm way out of my warranty as the truck has 120,000. The total bill is just under $1,000 ! Thinking about calling Nissan, but I think I'm S.O.L on this one. What do you guys think?

I would file a report with NHTSA the link is available in this thread. I would then call Nissan's consumer relations department tell them what they need to know and advise them that your research has shown that this is a common problem per service bulletins 06027 & 02120A and that you've filed an NHTSA report. You may not have to do so, as with me I'm sure they know about the problem. Given what's happening with Toyota right now they may opt to help to avoid similar bad press.

Had my mechanic fix a nail hole in my tire Friday and when he had it up on the lift I inspected the rear and sure enough, the right seal is leaking! It is exactly one year since my mechanic fixed it before! about 32,000 miles (92,000 on the Odometer). WTH!

I just looked up the service report and it was the Left Rear that was replaced on 5/08/2009 - Mileage in/out 63,623. Total work $320.85.

Just got off the phone with Nissan. They reviewed my case and decided that no compensation is forthcoming due to my Titan is out of warranty! The whole experience dealing with 1-800-NISSA-1 was very bad. The first person I contacted that created my case number #6810712 never returned my phone calls and was never available when I called. When I called again they asked what other NISSAN vehicles I owned. I asked why is that any of their business and they said they were just gathering information. I told them my Wife owns a NISSAN Murano. They called back again and spoke with my Wife and asked her the same question, then said they were reviewing the case.

I WILL BE HARD PRESSED TO EVER PURCHASE OR RECOMMEND ANOTHER NISSAN PRODUCT AGAIN.

Why?...because they won't fix something out of warranty or because you feel their product won't last? I would press harder and show that it's been fixed more than once for the same problem. Did you have Nissan look at it the last time this happened?..because that may have been the deciding factor....they didn't fix it, someone else did.

The same day I called and they created a case # per their request I went to my Nissan Dealer "Fred Beans Limerick PA" and had the mechanic verify the leak. Then around 4:45, pulling out of the dealership, I left a message for "Monique" that I just had Nissan look at it. Told her the results and the invoice number on the ticket. She never returned any of my calls. I finally had to call back and wait in the Que for another representative.

I just sent them an email detailing all the problems I've had. My Wife owns a O4 Murano and and we've had to replace the wheel bearings just out of warranty, we've had to have the rear windshield washer line fixed twice the seat leather has cracked where it creases everytime you get in (extremely thin piece of pleather used for these seats). The drivers side window rattles like crazy when it's down. The fuel door solenoid failed and we couldn't open it to fill the car up. Our mechanic went through great pains to fix it (replace the plastic solenoid). The transmission seal has leaked since it just went out of warranty (since been replaced 2 times and is currently leaking and tightly observed by our mechanic). I can go on and on plus the problems I've had with my Titan. It seems Nissan Engineering put the "MINIMUM TOLERANCE PARTS" in their vehicles and they are not engineered with any leeway!

04 Titan Big Yellow Lemon

Hi yall,

Joined to add to this thread about reporting on the Rear Differential.
I have an 04 TitanK4. Original Owner, 78K and have had so many problems with this truck it is ridiculous. I really do think this vehicle truth be know would qualify for an Official Lemon. We never towed anything, used the 4 wheel drive one trip in the snow on the freeway.

I am reporting the seal failure today, via the link supplied in the OP.

Want to let you all know that on top of the brake defect fron and back (replaced 4 times) before actually resolved, have had rear seal failure (replaced under warranty), cracked manifolds (yes both) replaced under warranty, E brake totally gone destoyed (???) replaced under warranty, various seat belt issues (warranty work again), now out of warrranty and we have leaking power fluid hose, leaking transmission fluid hose, :puke: And NOW the rear diff is totally gone. We even changed the fluid to try to prevent this. We had a gold maintenance plan and it was serviced on schedule perfectly the whole time.

This is the hilarious part, called the dealer and they said "no known issues" with the rear end. We can fix it for 3,500 and they wanted us to foot the entire bill. :money-big:

ROTFL. WTH? Try again guys! We went directly to the head of the dealership, and are making some headway. They have now (within one day of negotiation) offered to split the cost of an entire rear end complete with brakes. Still not good enough for us, so we are chewing on them, talking up all of the problems, and (of course nicely) and the future front diff failure that will occur.

The head honcho at the dealership admitted that they have a real problem now with these rear ends, especially the e-locker equipped, ours is, but all of them really, he admitted they are all failing.

I will keep you all posted as to how this is resolved, and thank you all for your posts on this, we would have had no hope of getting help if it was not for all of this evidence.

Wow! I don't tow anything with my LE Crew Cab Titan either (once in a while I'll tow my buddies Boston Whaler).

I'm having an annoying problem with the drivers side seat belt not retracting all the way, but it's just that an annoyance.

purza,
Let me tell you, the tow truck driver said he had been towing a rash of Titans lately, and wanted to know what was wrong with them!

He said nealy all of the ones he had picked up were like ours, no towing Just street vehicles.

Our Titan is in the shop. We have a free loaner car, and the Dealer has agreed (they have a deal with the factory which we have not spoken to yet) and have now offered us a flat $1,500 to fix. Nissan realized they issued The Titan with faulty rear gears, as the rear end they are putting on our Titan is different. Our big concern is what about when the front end goes Po**of.

I am honestly looking into the Federal Laws, we are just over 77,000.
For a truck that was advertised with a towing capcity of 5000lbs, what a sick joke this all is. I imagine that ll the people who towed early and ongoing with the Titan has the rear ends go long before, and they covered it under warranty.

btsTitan,

That is crazy! I forwarded this to a friend of a friend that does a lot of towing. A year or two ago he loaded up his bed with pavers below listed capacity and it bent the bed. He was arguing with the dealer about it, but don't know the outcome. (I feel very bad that I seem to be dumping on Nissan but it is what it is...)

T was in the shop again yesterday, right rear leaking again. They replaced both axles assy's about 20K ago. Has 45 K on it now. They replaced them with the new part numbers that are in the new TSB on the rear axles for the seals. Will keep everyone informed how they perform after I get all the residual oil off the backing plates and such.

AgTitan06,
Thanks for starting this thread, and the reporting link.
Mine is reported AGAIN.
Passenger side quit for second time at 76300 miles. Is Nissan the only one who can't seal an axle?
Maybe an aftermarket seal will show up that works.

has Any one had to deal with nissian north america to get issues resolved. my 05 titan needs axle seals again. 3 rd set. truck has 105,000 miles on it. the new fix is to replace total axle with new seals and bearing. last time they just pressed on new seals and bearings. what do think
thanks

I called the 800 number for Nissan and the first person I talked to dropped me. Didn't return my calls. Second time I called they reviewed my case then told me they weren't doing anything because the truck was out of warranty. The first seal leaked Just over 60,000. It was probably leaking before but didn't catch it. Now the other started leaking at 90,000.

just got off the phone with nissan consumer affairs. warranty ended at 60000 miles, i bought the truck with 61611 miles on it. it was leaking before i purchased it. nissan refuses any help at all. very pissed. i wrote a complaint on that nhtsa site but don't know where it is supposed to go from there. any ideas? nissan dealership tells me $1524.30 to replace rear axle shafts, axle seals, vent tube, bearings. fml.
